Marcie Persyn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Internship Coordinator. Her research focuses on the interplay between Hellenistic and Augustan poetry, particularly Roman satire and the sociolinguistic dimensions of Greco-Roman literary exchange. She holds a Ph.D. in Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania (2019) and a B.A. in Classics from Baylor University (2014).
Her work employs modern code-switching theory to analyze linguistic and cultural dynamics in Latin literature, with recent projects exploring textual transmission and digital editions of satirical fragments. Research interests include Ancient bilingualism, digital textual criticism, and the representation of classical themes in modern media such as video games.
Persyn’s publications engage with topics ranging from Roman satire’s reception of Greek tradition to gender dynamics in classical video games. She is actively expanding her research into sociolinguistic frameworks for studying ancient literary exchanges while maintaining a commitment to digital humanities methodologies.
