Dr. Marcia Scanlon is a Professor in the Department of Nursing at Westfield State University, specializing in medical-surgical nursing education, global health, and healthcare leadership. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Sacred Heart University and has extensive clinical experience as an educator, manager, and clinical nurse specialist in acute care settings. Her teaching portfolio includes undergraduate nursing courses such as Care of the Adult & Older Adult, Nursing Leadership, and Global Health with travel programs to Guatemala and Italy.
Dr. Scanlon’s research focuses on cultural competence measurement, quality improvement, and clinical education. Recent work includes studies on transfusion-associated adverse event recognition in nursing students and the role of social desirability in cultural competency assessments. She has presented at national conferences such as the ATI National Nurses Summit and contributed to the Encyclopedia of Nursing Research.
Professional service includes roles on the Westfield Technical Academy Allied Health Nursing Advisory Board, Springfield Technical Community College Advisory Board, and Holyoke Community College Beta Zeta Chapter. She serves on multiple university committees including Academic Policy, Technology & Simulation Innovation, and Women’s Lacrosse Faculty Liaison.
