Dr. Marcia Finlayson is a Professor and Director of the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen's University's Faculty of Health Sciences. She also serves as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Her research focuses on enhancing the health and well-being of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their caregivers through self-management programs and rehabilitation services. Key areas include falls prevention, fatigue management, and caregiver support.
Education: PhD in Community Health Sciences (University of Manitoba), MSc in Community Health Sciences, and BSc in Occupational Therapy (both from University of Manitoba).
Research Interests: Development and evaluation of MS interventions, health care access, and reducing disparities in rehabilitation outcomes. She co-founded the International MS Falls Prevention Research Network and leads projects like the endMS National Education Program. Current grants include studies on MS rehabilitation, circadian rhythms in MS, and community-based participatory research.
Teaching: Instructs in Rehabilitation Science, Aging and Health, and Leadership Development. Supervises students across multiple graduate programs including Rehabilitation and Health Leadership (RHL DSc).
Affiliations: MS Society of Canada Medical Advisory Committee, NMSS Clinical Trials Committee, and cross-appointments in Policy Studies and the International Centre for Community-Based Rehabilitation.
Recent Work: Focus on digital tools for caregiver resilience (DigiTRAC), community-based caregiver support, and global MS clinical trial diversity. Her research emphasizes patient-centered outcomes and telehealth solutions.
