Marcello Mazzetti

Marcello Mazzetti is an academic, performer, and researcher specializing in early music. He holds teaching positions at multiple institutions including ABABO (where he teaches History of Music and Musical Theatre for the Scenography program), the University of Padua (DISLL - Degree in Italian Medieval and Renaissance Studies), the University of Turin, and the "L. Marenzio" Conservatory of Brescia where he is a member of the Doctoral School.

His research interests focus on Early Music Performance, Music History, and Musical Theatre, with particular expertise in 15th- to 17th-century repertoire. Mazzetti combines performance as a singer and lutenist with academic research and teaching, and he works extensively on educational technologies and pedagogical methodologies for teaching early music at all levels.

Mazzetti is actively involved in several scholarly projects including the digital music critical edition project "Tasso in Music" (tassomusic.org) and serves as co-general editor of the musicology series "Musica Incarnata" published by Brepols. During summers, he teaches and performs at the Sarteano Early Music Campus in Val d'Orcia.

He collaborates internationally with ensembles such as Palma Choralis Research Group & Early Music Ensemble, Ars Lusitana, La Academia de Los Nocturnos, Cantores Sancti Gregorii, Folger Consort and Spinacino Ensemble, performing regularly in Europe, the UK and the USA.

At ABABO, Mazzetti teaches the course "History of Music and Musical Theatre" (Code: ABST48, CFA: 6), which includes six meetings and a field trip to the International Museum and Library of Music in Bologna. His teaching methodology combines traditional lectures with flipped classroom approaches, group work, case studies, and simulations.
