Marcello Fidanzio

Professor Marcello Fidanzio directs the Institute of Culture and Archaeology of Biblical Lands at the Università della Svizzera Italiana. He specializes in Dead Sea Scrolls archaeology and material culture of Second Temple Judaism.

Research focus:

• Archaeological context of Dead Sea Scrolls
• Qumran excavations
• Material analysis of biblical artifacts
• Second Temple period studies

He leads the Qumran Caves Publication Project and directs the 'Gerusalemme' Summer School on biblical archaeology involving twelve universities.

Honors include the Best Scholarly Book award from the Biblical Archaeology Society for his publication on Qumran caves.

Fidanzio collaborates with the Israel Museum on the Great Isaiah Scroll research project and has held visiting positions at the École Biblique and Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
