Michael O. Wise is a Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Languages and Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and the University of Chicago, an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on ancient Judaism, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and Semitic languages, using over twenty languages in his work. He is internationally recognized for his expertise on the Dead Sea Scrolls, having authored bestsellers like *The Dead Sea Scrolls Uncovered* (1992) and *The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation* (1996, 2005).
Dr. Wise’s work has been featured in *Time*, *National Geographic*, and the BBC, and he frequently lectures globally on Second Temple Judaism and biblical archaeology. He also serves as an ordained minister in the Evangelical Free Church, teaching adult Sunday School classes. His recent scholarly contributions include studies on Bar Kokhba documents, Judaean book culture, and Roman-period literacy practices. He advised the Science Museum of Minnesota’s 2010 Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition and leads tours of biblical lands through KTIS Radio Network.
His research interests span Dead Sea Scrolls analysis, ancient Hebrew/Aramaic texts, New Testament Greek, and Classics. He has contributed to dictionaries on early Judaism and edited volumes on Scrolls methodology. His 2015 book *Language and Literacy in Roman Judaea* examines Bar Kokhba-era documents, while forthcoming work explores Judaean book culture in relation to Qumran scrolls.
