Marcel Stoetzler is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Bangor University, affiliated with the School of History, Law and Social Sciences. His research focuses on Critical Theory, antisemitism, and social theory, with a particular emphasis on the Frankfurt School and feminist theory. Stoetzler holds a prestigious Horkheimer Fellowship and has contributed to groundbreaking works such as Beginning Classical Social Theory (2017) and edited volumes on antisemitism and sociology.
Education: Studied at Hamburg University, University of Greenwich, and Middlesex University (London), with training in history, literature, linguistics, media studies, and gender/ethnic studies.
Research Interests: Analyzes antisemitism’s role in modernity, nationalism, and liberalism. Current projects include the history of antisemitism and the Frankfurt School’s critique of antisemitism. He serves on the editorial board of Patterns of Prejudice and is a fellow at the Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Manchester.
Teaching: Leads modules on classical social theory, antisemitism, and multicultural education. Supervised over a dozen PhD students, including work on disability studies, education policy in China, and medical ethics.
Awards: Horkheimer Fellowship (Frankfurt), ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (Goldsmiths), Simon Fellowship (Manchester), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books, including monographs on antisemitism in Bismarck’s Germany and edited collections on Critical Theory.
