Marcel Olbert is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at London Business School, where he has served since 2020. He holds positions as a Junior Research Associate at ZEW (Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research) and a Research Fellow of TRR 266 Accounting for Transparency. His research focuses on corporate taxation, disclosure regulation, and their real-world impacts on multinational firms and sustainability, including studies on carbon leakage and global tax reforms. Olbert’s work has been published in top-tier journals such as The Accounting Review and Review of Financial Studies.
He teaches Financial Accounting in the core MBA curriculum and Taxes and Transparency for Sustainable Business as an elective. Students praise his engaging teaching style, noting his ability to connect complex concepts to real-world applications. Olbert has received grants from the NBER, Wheeler Institute, and ITPF for projects on global tax policy and carbon leakage.
Outside academia, he immerses himself in diverse cultures, enjoys electronic and Latin American music, and values relaxation and family time. His hobbies include tattoo art, having invited a renowned tattoo artist to speak at LBS. Olbert holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim, with visiting research stints at Stanford GSB and UNC Chapel Hill.
