Dr. Marcel Danner is a Temporary Academic Councillor at the Chair of Classical Archaeology, University of Würzburg, since 2015. He holds a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the University of Cologne (2012) and leads the DFG project signa marmorea (2019–present). His fieldwork includes projects in Olympia, Pompeii, Pergamon, and Ostia, with a focus on late antique urbanism and sculpture reuse.
His research spans Late Antique Archaeology, Roman Urban Studies, Archaistic Sculpture, and Digital Cataloging. Recent publications address Trajan’s Column iconography, Ostia’s housing, and sculpture landscapes in Late Antiquity. He has received the Offermann-Hergarten Prize and is a member of the German Archaeological Association, Mommsen Society, and Würzburg Graduate School for the Humanities.

Danner contributes to archaeological building research and cultural coherence in Late Antiquity, co-editing volumes on fragmentation and cultural dynamics.
