Marc Sampedro Pilegaard serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health - Department of Health Services Research at Aarhus University and as Senior Researcher at DEFACTUM and the Department of Social Medicine and Rehabilitation at Gødstrup Hospital. His academic journey includes a PhD in Public Health (2015-2018), Master of Science in Health Science (2012-2014), and Occupational Therapist training (2007-2011).
His research focuses on developing and evaluating complex interventions in palliative care, rehabilitation, and social medicine, with special emphasis on young adult cancer survivors aged 18-39. His work aims to improve rehabilitation opportunities by developing personalized interventions that consider physical, psychological, and social aspects of patient care. His approach emphasizes individuals' everyday lives, including self-care, leisure, and work.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on rehabilitation integration in palliative care, development of interventions for young cancer survivors, and assessment tools for activities of daily living. His work consistently addresses quality of life, advanced cancer care, and rehabilitation engineering through both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
His notable scientific recognition includes the International consensus of occupational therapy interventions for people with palliative care needs award from the European Association for Palliative Care in June 2023.
As an educator, he teaches master's students in developing and evaluating complex rehabilitation interventions, lectures on rehabilitation for individuals with life-threatening illnesses, and supervises both master's and PhD students. His teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning for optimal educational outcomes.
