Joanne Reid

Professor Joanne Reid is a Professor of Cancer and Palliative Care at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Queen's University Belfast (QUB), within the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences. She leads research in cachexia across chronic illnesses (cancer, renal, cardiac) and palliative care, with international collaborations and grants (e.g., DIAdIC, Marie Curie-funded studies). Her roles include Chair of the All Ireland Institute's Palliative Care Research Network and the EAPC Research Network. Prof. Reid supervises PhD students in cachexia and healthcare interventions and chairs the INDEN Global Classroom initiative.

Key research interests focus on cachexia management, palliative care guidelines, and complex interventions for patients and caregivers. Her work informs clinical practice, such as national guidelines for cancer care and interprofessional teams. Current projects include evaluating psycho-educational interventions for cachexia and moral distress in intensive care. She has over 198 publications and 17 awards, including the EDTNA/ERCA Scholarship and EAPC recognition.
