Marc Mitchell is an Associate Professor at Western University's School of Kinesiology. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, an MSc from the University of Victoria, and a BSc/BPHE from Queen's University. Mitchell supervises graduate students in the Psychological Basis of Kinesiology (MA/PhD) and Integrative Biosciences (MSc/PhD) programs.
His research integrates behavioural science with digital technologies to develop scalable solutions for improving population health. Key focuses include promoting physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviors, and mitigating preventable diseases through system-based approaches. Mitchell leads the scientific development of the Carrot Rewards app—a national initiative that incentivizes physical activity through loyalty points—while investigating mental health co-benefits and social returns on investment.
