Marc Levine is a Professor of Algebraic Geometry at the Faculty of Mathematics, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Germany, where he has held a W3 Universitätsprofessor position since 2009. He previously served as a Full Professor (1988-2010), Associate Professor (1986-1988), and Assistant Professor (1984-1986) at Northeastern University, USA, and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania (1979-1984) and a Teaching Fellow at Brandeis University (1974-1979). He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Brandeis University (1979) and a B.S. in Mathematics from MIT (1974).
- Full member of the German National Academy of Science (Leopoldina) since 2013
- Awarded the Senior Berwick Prize (2018), Alexander von Humboldt Professorship (2009), and Wolfgang Paul Award (2001)
Levine's research focuses on Algebraic Geometry, Motivic Homotopy Theory, and Motivic Cohomology, bridging algebraic topology and algebraic geometry. He has supervised 13 completed Ph.D. students (1996-2018), 4 current Ph.D. students, and 28 postdoctoral researchers (2009-2018). His editorial roles include the Journal of the Math. Institute of Jussieu (2010-present) and Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (2009-2012).
