Marc Lavertu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He holds a B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. His research focuses on biomedical materials, particularly chitosan-based biomaterials for gene delivery, nanomedicine, and regenerative medicine.
Research trends in his 85+ publications emphasize chitosan's applications in immunomodulation, RNA delivery systems, and orthopedic implants. Recent work compares chitosan adjuvants to lipid nanoparticles in SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and evaluates PRP-chitosan implants for meniscus repair. Collaborative projects span biomedical engineering, materials science, and infectious disease prevention.
He received the 2009 Braconnot Prize from the European Chitin Society for contributions to chitin science. His supervised students have completed 12 graduate theses (7 PhD, 5 Master's) on topics like chitosan siRNA delivery, hybrid biomaterials, and mRNA transport. Lavertu's affiliations include the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal.
