Marc Kaufmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at Central European University (CEU), Vienna. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University (2017). His research focuses on behavioral economics, exploring topics like motivated thinking, socially responsible behaviors, and belief dynamics. He leads the Center for Belief Update and Debiasing (DEBIAS) and has organized interdisciplinary events on topics such as degrowth economics and data analysis tools.
Education: PhD in Economics, Harvard University (2017); earlier work includes contributions to energy efficiency studies in the Belgian building sector (2011).
Research interests span applied economic theory, particularly in domains of belief formation, social responsibility in markets, and labor market behaviors. His recent work examines how secondary markets affect ethical consumer choices and the dynamics of chosen beliefs in decision-making processes.
Professional involvement includes organizing academic seminars like 'Brownbag Seminars' exploring topics from effort projection bias to narrow bracketing in work choices. He is also a developer of congame, an experimental economics software platform.
