Tomy Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at the Central European University (CEU) since August 2018. He holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on financial market design, over-the-counter (OTC) markets, information dynamics in finance, and applied economic theory. He is a member of the CEU's Financial Theory Group (FTG).
Lee's research explores topics such as cross-venue latency effects on market quality, regulatory frameworks for OTC markets, and banking conglomerate governance. Notable works include analyzing latency-driven market fragmentation and evaluating the efficacy of 'China Walls' in preventing information leakage between banking affiliates. His Review of Economic Dynamics paper (2019) and Journal of Finance collaboration (2025) highlight his contributions to financial market microstructure.
He frequently engages in academic discourse through Brownbag Seminars at CEU, addressing themes like optimal tick sizes, portfolio trades, and regulatory design. Lee's work combines theoretical frameworks with empirical relevance, offering insights for policymakers and financial institutions.
