Dr. Marc Hudson is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex. His work focuses on climate policy, energy governance, and socio-technical transitions, with a particular emphasis on analyzing policy failures and resistance dynamics in Australia and globally. His research bridges environmental history, political economy, and cultural studies, examining how colonial legacies and corporate power shape contemporary sustainability challenges.
Key areas of focus include fossil fuel industry lobbying, decarbonization barriers, and the political economy of renewable energy adoption. His publications critique energy sector myths, institutional inertia in climate governance, and the role of narrative in shaping public and policy responses to environmental crises. Hudson’s interdisciplinary approach engages with legal frameworks (e.g., ecocide legislation), cultural artifacts (e.g., Doctor Who as energy justice metaphor), and historical case studies (e.g., Zionist climate encounters in Palestine).
Recent work highlights Australia’s recurring climate policy failures, exploring how governmental “enacted inertia” perpetuates fossil fuel dependency. He also examines conceptual tools like “avivocracy” to reimagine democratic governance structures for sustainability. With no listed students, his scholarly contributions are primarily through article-based critiques and policy analyses.
