Dr. Gregor Semieniuk is a Researcher at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex, associated with the EU H2020 DOLFINS project. He concurrently works as a Senior Climate Change Economist at the World Bank and holds affiliations with UCL's Institute of Innovation and Public Purpose, and the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on the political economy of low-carbon transitions, energy systems transformation, and the financial mechanisms enabling sustainable development.
Education: PhD in Economics from The New School for Social Research.
Research interests include energy demand patterns, decarbonization financing, fossil fuel subsidy reallocation, and the distributional impacts of climate policies. He examines how economic growth interacts with energy use, emphasizing equity and systemic transitions in global energy systems.
Publications span topics such as stranded fossil fuel assets, pension fund risks under climate policies, and the role of public investment in renewable energy innovation. His work integrates econometric analysis with policy recommendations to address climate change challenges while ensuring equitable outcomes.
