Marc Greenberg is the Vernon K. Krieble Professor of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University, where he has been a faculty member since 2002. He leads an active research group focused on nucleic acid chemistry, DNA/RNA damage, repair mechanisms, and chemical biology. His work bridges synthetic organic chemistry with molecular and cellular biology.

His lab investigates how these lesions affect transcription, replication, and repair processes. They also study histone-catalyzed chemistry in nucleosomes, design DNA repair inhibitors, and develop radiosensitizing agents for cancer therapy under hypoxic conditions.
Recent Research Trends: His recent publications (2021–2025) reveal a strong focus on lesion bypass by DNA polymerases, transcriptional mutagenesis, DNA-protein crosslinks, tandem lesions, and epigenetic signaling triggered by DNA damage. The work combines synthetic chemistry, biochemical assays, structural analysis, and cellular models.
