Marc A. Baldo is the Dugald C. Jackson Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at MIT. He has been at MIT since 2002, leading the Center for Excitonics (2009–2019) and RLE since 2017. His research focuses on organic electronics, solar cells, and exciton-related phenomena.
Education: B.Eng. (Electrical Engineering) from the University of Sydney (1995, First Class Honors & Medal), M.A. (1998), and Ph.D. (2001) from Princeton University.
Research interests include light-emitting devices, exciton transport in organic materials, fusion/fission processes, chemical sensors, and spintronics. Over 20 years at MIT, he has contributed to breakthroughs in organic light-emitting displays, earning the Jan Rajchman Prize (2013).
Awards: Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Grants include MIT Energy Initiative Seed Funds (2019) and Deshpande grants (2014). His work spans quantum engineering, printable sensors, and solar cell efficiency improvements.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Spin & Excitonics Engineering Group and the Organic and Nanostructured Electronics team within RLE. Collaborates on National Quantum Information Science Research Centers and microelectronics initiatives.
