Marc A. Baldo is the Dugald C. Jackson Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT. His research focuses on electronic, optical, and quantum materials for energy applications, with specific expertise in exciton physics, organic electronics, and nanostructured devices. Baldo pioneered advancements in OLED technology and exciton management for solar energy conversion.
His research program explores fundamental transport phenomena in organic semiconductors, developing novel approaches to light emission (OLEDs) and solar energy harvesting through exciton fission and triplet sensitization. Current work integrates quantum materials with silicon photonics to overcome fundamental efficiency limits in photovoltaic devices.
