Farnaz Niroui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), affiliated with the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE). She joined MIT in 2018 following a Miller Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on nanoscale engineering, integrating materials science and chemistry to develop hybrid fabrication techniques for precise control of light-matter interactions, electronic transport, and exciton dynamics.
Education: Ph.D. and S.M. in Electrical Engineering from MIT (2018), B.Sc. in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Research interests include deterministic nanofabrication, dynamic tunability of nanoscale systems, and the creation of multifunctional optoelectronic devices. Her work emphasizes atomic-level control and scalable processing of nanoscale architectures.
Selected publications highlight advancements in van der Waals integration, molecular platforms for nanoelectromechanical systems, and perovskite-based nanocrystals. Recent articles explore applications in robotics, neural modulation, and quantum light sources.
- Awards: NSF CAREER Award (2022), Miller Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018).
Advising and grants include the NSF CAREER grant for quantum light sources. Her group, the Niroui Group, pioneers innovations in nanoscale systems and their applications in optoelectronics and bionics.
