Mara Squicciarini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bocconi University. She holds affiliations with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), CESifo, IGIER, Pericles, LEAP, and LICOS. She was awarded an ERC Starting Grant for her research on 'Education, Diversity, Innovation, and Politics.' Her research focuses on economic history, development economics, and applied microeconomics, using historical data to study cultural and institutional drivers of long-term growth.
Education: PhD in Economics from KU Leuven, Postdoctoral Researcher at Northwestern University, and visiting positions at Stanford University and UCLA.
Research interests include economic history, political economy, development, and food policy. Her work examines topics such as technology adoption in industrialization, religious influence on politics, and the diffusion of fake news. Notable contributions include studies on religiosity and education in 19th-century France, which won the Young Italian Economist Award.
Scientific recognition includes awards for her work on food policy and migration. She serves as a board member of the Review of Economic Studies (RESTUD).
