Maohong Fan is an Adjunct Professor at Georgia Tech's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research, supported by NSF, DOE, EPA, USDA, and international agencies, integrates catalysis, separation processes, and materials science for energy and environmental applications.
Key areas include: converting coal/oil/gases to value-added chemicals using catalytic methods; developing ionic liquids and nanostructured materials for renewable energy; computational chemistry for reaction mechanisms; air/water pollution control (CO₂, heavy metals); and life cycle assessments of chemical processes.
Fan has published over 175 refereed works and serves on editorial boards for chemical/energy journals. He was named a National Academy of Inventors Fellow in 2023.
