Manuel Puppis is a Full Professor of Media Structures and Governance in the Department of Communication and Media Research at the University of Fribourg. He holds a PhD and M.A. in Communication Science from the University of Zurich. His research focuses on media policy, regulation, governance, and digitization, with a particular emphasis on Swiss and comparative media systems. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Swiss Federal Media Commission (FMEC) and has held visiting scholar positions at institutions like New York University and the University of Amsterdam.
Education: PhD and M.A. in Communication Science, Political Science, and Economic/Social History from the University of Zurich.
Research interests include media policy frameworks, digital transformation of public spheres, media economics, and critical political economy. He has published extensively on topics like public service media, algorithmic gatekeeping, and media diversity.
