Manuel Cirauqui (b. 1978) is a curator and writer working at the crossroads of contemporary art, design strategy, and experimental academia. He serves as Curator at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao since 2016 and is the founding director of einaidea, a research platform created in 2019 associated with EINA University Center of Design and Art, Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona. Academically, he holds the position of Adjunct Lecturer in Critical Curating at the Rhode Island School of Design and has conducted guest lectures at numerous institutions including MICA Maryland Institute College of Art, HEAD Geneva, and Aalto University.
His educational background includes a Philosophy degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, independent research at EHESS and INALCO in Paris, and a Master's in Esthetics and Contemporary Art Theory from Paris Nanterre University. As an expert advisor to S+T+ARTS (European Commission's initiative), he has overseen international exhibitions including NEAR+FUTURES+QUASI+WORLDS across Berlin, Bologna, and Lisbon.
Cirauqui's research spans contemporary art curation, experimental media, sound studies, and the intersection of artistic practice with social and political contexts. His curatorial practice at the Guggenheim Bilbao has featured major exhibitions on artists including June Crespo, Soto, Henri Michaux, and Allora & Calzadilla, with particular focus on materiality, spatial relationships, and environmental concerns within contemporary art discourse.
His recent publications reveal consistent engagement with contemporary art practices, particularly in sculpture, textile art, and experimental media, often examining the relationship between artistic production and broader cultural contexts. The publications demonstrate methodological diversity, combining exhibition documentation with critical theoretical frameworks that bridge artistic practice and academic inquiry.
As director of einaidea, Cirauqui leads a multi-faceted platform operating as a project generator, roaming design studio, intensive study program, curatorial office, and think tank. The platform's collaborative approach partners with institutions including Sonar Festival, Teatre Lliure, Centre Grau-Garriga, and international art schools across Europe and the Americas, emphasizing co-creative dynamics and transnational artistic exchange.
