Dr. Mantu K. Hudait is an Associate Professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on advanced semiconductor materials and devices, including strained germanium heterostructures, quantum well lasers, and nanosheet transistors. His work bridges materials science, photonics, and nanoelectronics to develop next-generation computing and optoelectronic technologies.
Current research thrusts include: bandgap engineering of germanium-tin alloys for photonic applications; carrier dynamics in quantum-confined structures; high-k dielectrics for advanced transistors; and heterogenous integration of semiconductor materials. His team employs atomistic modeling alongside experimental characterization to understand fundamental material properties.
Dr. Hudait maintains an extensive publication record with over 200 peer-reviewed articles. Recent publications explore tensile-strained germanium systems, quantum well laser architectures, and novel transistor designs. His work consistently addresses challenges in semiconductor scaling, energy-efficient computing, and optoelectronic integration.
He directs a comprehensive research program that includes multiple federally funded projects and industry collaborations. His laboratory facilities include molecular beam epitaxy systems and advanced semiconductor characterization tools.
