Manon Duret serves as a Research Assistant Professor at the Climate Systems Engineering initiative (CSEi) within the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth at the University of Chicago. Her work bridges scientific innovation and practical climate solutions through rigorous evaluation of intervention feasibility, scalability, and societal impact.
Her research centers on open-systems carbon removal methodologies—including ocean alkalinity enhancement and enhanced rock weathering—while integrating microbial ecology to assess environmental consequences. She actively explores biotechnology applications for industrial decarbonization, emphasizing real-world viability of climate technologies. This interdisciplinary approach aligns with CSEi's mission to balance urgent climate action with sustainable growth through evidence-based engineering solutions.
As part of the Institute's core structure alongside EPIC and ETI, Dr. Duret contributes to evaluating century-scale emission risks while advancing practical climate systems engineering frameworks for global implementation.
