Chris Reinhard is an Associate Professor in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Collaborator with the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation. His work bridges biogeochemistry and Earth system science to develop scalable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solutions.
Reinhard's research centers on mechanistic evaluation of CDR approaches, particularly enhanced rock weathering in agricultural systems, engineered alkalinity production via modular reactors, and ocean alkalinity enhancement. He employs computer modeling of ocean/sediment/soil biogeochemistry, stable isotope analysis, and empirical studies of natural/managed systems to assess ecological consequences and scalability. His work spans global biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and oxygen within human-impacted Earth systems.
As an active researcher, Reinhard contributes to both fundamental Earth system science and applied climate intervention strategies through his dual institutional affiliations, utilizing interdisciplinary methodologies to address urgent climate challenges while evaluating ecological trade-offs.
