معرفی
Professor David J Beerling is a leading academic at the University of Sheffield's School of Biosciences, holding a Personal Chair and serving as Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation (LC3M). His research focuses on biogeochemical strategies for carbon dioxide removal, particularly through enhanced rock weathering (ERW) in agricultural systems. He leads the UK via Enhanced Rock Weathering Greenhouse Gas Removal Demonstrator, establishing global field sites to assess carbon capture and agronomic co-benefits.
Beerling's scholarly contributions include pivotal studies on plant-climate interactions, permafrost carbon feedbacks, and historical CO2 regulation. His research group explores plant responses to atmospheric change, mycorrhizal partnerships, and ERW scalability. Current projects integrate silicate amendments with crop systems to enhance carbon sinks while improving soil health.
His scientific achievements have been recognized with Fellowships of the Royal Society and Learned Society of Wales, a Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award, and a Philip Leverhulme Prize. He serves on the Royal Society Council and as Editor-in-Chief of Biology Letters, shaping global climate science discourse.
