Manoela Carpenedo Rodrigues is an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society and the department of Christianity and the History of Ideas. She holds a Marie Curie Fellowship and is a member of the Young Academy Groningen. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on grassroots Christian movements, particularly in Latin America and among Latin American-African communities. She examines intersections of religion, culture, identity, politics, and digital media, with a specialization in Judaizing Christianities, Christian Zionism, and political mobilization.
Education: PhD and MPhil from the University of Cambridge, with prior studies at UFRGS (Brazil), University of Tübingen (Germany), University of Oviedo (Spain), and Central European University (Hungary). Teaching experience includes roles at the University of Kent and University of Cambridge. Research interests span religious syncretism, moralities, activism, and digital ethnography.
Recent publications analyze Brazilian evangelical political dynamics, Judaizing practices among women, and global Christian Zionism. Awards include a Marie Curie Fellowship (2021) and a fellowship from the University of London’s Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (2020). She contributes to policy briefs on religious freedom and engages in public discourse through media interviews and lectures.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Center of Religion Conflict and Globalization. Academic activities include organizing international conferences and delivering keynote lectures on topics such as digital mobilization of Christian Zionism and Latin American religious dynamics.
