Manisha Balwani is a Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, affiliated with both the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and the Division of General Internal Medicine. Her research focuses on rare genetic disorders, including lysosomal storage diseases and acute hepatic porphyria, with active collaborations involving the NIH and pharmaceutical institutions.
- Education: MD from Topiwala National Medical College, MS in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh, Residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, Fellowships in Medical Genetics and Biochemical Genetics at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Her work includes natural history studies for rare diseases like Gaucher and Fabry, and clinical trials for therapies such as Givosiran and MT 7117. She investigates premotor Parkinsonism in GBA mutation carriers, supported by NIH grants. Her laboratory is based at the Atran Berg Laboratory Building in New York.
