معرفی
Manfred Salmhofer is a Professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. His research focuses on the mathematical foundations of renormalization group methods, quantum field theory, and many-body quantum systems, with applications to condensed matter physics and statistical mechanics. He has led major collaborative projects such as the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2181: STRUCTURES and the DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich SFB 1225: ISOQUANT.
Research Highlights:
- Developed rigorous renormalization group techniques for fermionic systems
- Studied breakdown of Fermi liquid theory in two-dimensional metals
- Analyzed quantum diffusion and spectral gaps in interacting fermion systems
- Contributed to functional renormalization group approaches for correlated electron models
Grants and Leadership: Salmhofer has served as speaker for the DFG research unit FOR 723: Functional Renormalization Group for Correlated Fermion Systems (2007-2016), principal investigator in SFB 1225 (since 2016), and chairman of the IUPAP Commission C18 on Mathematical Physics (2015-2017). He co-organized workshops at institutions like the Erwin Schrödinger Institute and Oberwolfach Research Institute.
Teaching: He teaches advanced courses in mathematical physics, including Methoden der Mathematischen Physik (MMP1) and Theoretical Statistical Physics, emphasizing the interplay between mathematics and physical applications.
