Manel Esteller is a prominent academic and researcher currently serving as the Director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC), Chair of Genetics at the School of Medicine, University of Barcelona, and a Research Professor at the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). His work bridges genetics, epigenetics, and cancer research.
Research interests include:
- Epigenome and epitranscriptome mapping in normal and transformed cells
- Interactions between epigenetic modifications and non-coding RNAs
- Development of epigenetic drugs for cancer therapy
- DNA methylation and its role in human cancer
- Histone modifications and their implications in disease
He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Narcís Monturiol Medal (2020) and multiple European Research Council grants. His editorial roles include being Editor-in-Chief of Epigenetics and Associate Editor for several high-impact journals. He also directs The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project for Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) at the NCI-NIH.
