Maneesha Deckha is a Professor and Lansdowne Chair in Law at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law. Her research focuses on animal legal studies, feminist analysis of law, and socio-legal theory. She directs the Animals & Society Research Initiative and co-founded the community-engaged Animals & Society Research Initiative. Deckha holds degrees from McGill University, the University of Toronto, and Columbia University. Her work bridges law, feminism, and postcolonial theory, examining issues like animal rights, food systems, and cultural pluralism.

Her research critiques anthropocentrism in legal systems and advocates for interspecies justice. She has held visiting roles at NYU and the Hastings Institute, and serves on international advisory boards for journals like Social & Legal Studies and Hypatia.
Deckha teaches courses on animals, law, and critical theory. Her scholarship has been featured in academic and non-academic venues, including the Museum of Modern Art and CBC Radio. She actively engages with global animal law networks and promotes pedagogical innovations in legal education.
