Dr. Manasa Hegde is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, South East Technological University. Her research focuses on developing sol-gel coatings for corrosion, cavitation erosion, and biofouling protection in marine and renewable energy applications. She holds a PhD in Materials Engineering from SETU (2023) and has prior experience in bioplastics and nanosensor development.
Education:
- PhD in Materials Engineering, South East Technological University (2018–2023)
- Masters of Technology in Nanotechnology, Visvesvaraya Technological University (2014–2016)
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication, Visvesvaraya Technological University (2011–2014)
Research interests include multifunctional coatings for harsh environments, nanomaterial synthesis, and sustainable materials. Current projects include the EU-funded SOLOblade initiative (2024–2027) developing anti-fouling sol-gel coatings for wind turbine blades.
Key achievements include pioneering work on hybrid sol-gel systems for aluminum alloys, with notable publications in Surface and Coatings Technology and Wear. Her work contributes to UN SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation) and 14 (Life Below Water).
