معرفی
Professor Robert Wood is a faculty member at the University of Southampton, specializing in Surface Engineering and Tribology. He leads research in lubrication, wear, and friction science, with a focus on renewable energy systems, marine tribology, and sustainable materials. His work addresses critical components in bearings, turbines, and wind energy systems, employing advanced sensor technology and machine learning. He heads the Green Tribology initiative to develop eco-friendly solutions for wear and friction reduction, and contributes to marine-based projects like tidal turbine blade protection and anti-fouling coatings.
- Research Groups: Member of nCATS (national Centre for Advanced Tribology), Southampton Geospatial, and Centre for Defence and Security Research.
- Funding: Multiple EPSRC grants, Schlumberger, Rolls Royce, and EU projects (e.g., WINDTRUST FP7).
His research integrates advanced coatings, data fusion, and renewable energy applications to mitigate system degradation in harsh environments. Projects include early wear detection in machinery and sustainable surface engineering for defense and transportation sectors.
