David Culliton

Dr. David Culliton is a Lecturer in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at South East Technological University (SETU). His research focuses on smart and sustainable materials, surface degradation, 3D printing, and renewable energy applications. He has secured over €2 million in research funding, including HCI grants for engineering programs and infrastructure development. Collaborations span institutions like TU Delft, Universidade de Aveiro, and UK universities. His work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and sustainable innovation. He actively supervises postgraduate students in bioplastics and electrochemistry, and his teaching integrates AI-driven approaches with legacy methodologies.

Dr. Culliton holds a PhD in Advanced Wear and Corrosion Resistant Surface Coating Treatments from TU Dublin (2012). His expertise includes electrochemistry, surface engineering, and advanced manufacturing. He has developed academic programs, implemented ISO 9000 training initiatives, and contributed to SETU’s Athena Swan accreditation. Key projects include the SPOTBlade initiative for smart coatings in renewable energy and EU-funded Innovation Partnership Projects in built environment and cold-chain management.
