Malysa Chandler

Malysa Chandler is a Master Teacher at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), specializing in science education and literacy practices. She holds a BS in Biology (Miles College), M.Ed. in Biology (Alabama State University), and an MA in Community Health (UAB). A former Science Department Chair at Shades Valley High School and Jefferson County LDC Mentor, she has been honored as Teacher of the Year multiple times and was a finalist for Alabama Teacher of the Year (2017). Her research focuses on innovative teaching methods, including digital HIV prevention games and real-world learning strategies. She has presented at national conferences and co-authored influential work in the Journal of HIV/AIDS. Active in UAB’s Center for Teaching & Learning, she advocates for student engagement and academic success through creative pedagogy.
