Malte Jung is an Associate Professor in Information Science at Cornell University and holds the Nancy H. ’62 and Philip M. ’62 Young Sesquicentennial Faculty Fellowship. His work focuses on human-robot interaction, group dynamics, and emotion in technology-mediated teamwork. He leads the Robots in Groups Lab, exploring how robots influence group behavior and dynamics. Jung earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Psychology from Stanford University, with postdoctoral training at Stanford’s Center for Work, Technology, and Organization. His education includes a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from TU Munich and an M.S. from Stanford.
Research interests include designing robots to enhance teamwork, analyzing emotional and social aspects of human-robot collaboration, and understanding how group processes can be shaped through technology. His lab investigates robot roles in team conflict resolution and collective decision-making, with applications in healthcare and education.
Key publications address affective grounding in HRI, predicting team performance via interaction analysis, and robot-mediated conflict repair. Recent work explores aging-related immune responses and pulmonary fibrosis mechanisms through multi-omic approaches, though this appears to diverge from his primary robotics focus.
