Malkit Shoshan is a designer, researcher, and writer currently serving as area head of Art, Design, and the Public Domain Master in Design Studies and design critic in Urban Planning at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. She is founding director of the architectural think-tank FAST (Foundation for Achieving Seamless Territory), which operates at the intersection of architecture, urban planning, and human rights, and holds 2024 appointments as Senior Loeb Fellow at Harvard GSD and Resident at The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center.
Her research investigates systemic violence's impact on lived environments through spatial design tools, focusing on border ecologies, UN peacekeeping missions, and environmental justice. Key projects include the Silver Lion-winning Border Ecologies and the Gaza Strip examining agricultural struggles along militarized borders, and BLUE: The Architecture of UN Peacekeeping Missions analyzing institutional impacts on communities. Her work consistently advocates for social justice through collaborative design initiatives that challenge bureaucratic power structures.
Shoshan's publications demonstrate evolving focus from cartographic conflict analysis (Atlas of Conflict, 2010) to environmental dimensions of peace operations (Greening Peacekeeping, 2018) and contemporary border ecologies. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges architecture, political geography, and human rights advocacy across 15+ years of fieldwork in conflict zones.
