Malin Arnell is a Researcher at the Department of Media and Culture Studies within the College of Humanities at Utrecht University. She is affiliated with the Graduate Gender Programme and the Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON).
Her research focuses on feminist, queer, posthuman, and ecological perspectives through performative practices. Key themes include:
- Embodied and collaborative modes of knowing
- Site-responsive artistic research
- Material and affective dimensions of human–nonhuman entanglements
- Planetary ecological challenges (forests, oceans, soils)
In the ERC-funded RESPIRE: Planetary Breathing in Asphyxiating Times project, she explores socio-environmental issues via interdisciplinary fieldwork and critical theory. She holds a Doctorate in Fine Arts (Choreography) from Stockholm University of the Arts & Lund University (2016). Her artistic practice involves long-term collaborations with institutions, curators, and communities, emphasizing co-creation and collective meaning-making. Scientific awards include a European Research Council Grant for the RESPIRE project.
