Malek El Diri is a Senior Lecturer in the Accounting and Finance Group at the University of York's School for Business and Society. He holds leadership roles as Programme Leader for the BSc Accounting, Business Finance, and Management programme and Interim Programme Leader for the BSc Accounting and Finance programme. He also serves as an external examiner for multiple institutions, including Imperial College Business School and the University of Gloucestershire.
Dr. El Diri earned his PhD in Financial Reporting from Leeds University Business School and has industry experience as an auditor with Ernst & Young, specializing in diverse sectors like finance, insurance, and hospitality. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE), and holds the International Teachers Programme (ITP) Certificate.
His research spans pedagogic innovation (flipped learning, AI in education, assessment strategies) and accounting research (earnings management, blockchain, corporate governance). He has presented at conferences such as the British Accounting and Finance Association Conference and published in journals like the Journal of Business Research and Economics Letters.
El Diri has received accolades including the Best Personal Tutor/Supervisor Award and Best Seminar Leader Award. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in financial accounting, auditing, and corporate finance, emphasizing both disciplinary expertise and pedagogical advancement.
