Malcolm Dunlop is a Professor at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer, University of Edinburgh, and Chair of Coloproctology at the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Centre. He leads the Colon Cancer Genetics Group and contributes to clinical research in colorectal cancer prevention and treatment.
- Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), University of Edinburgh (1986)
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), University of Edinburgh (1982)
Research Focus: Genetic susceptibility to colorectal cancer, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), chemoprevention via nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and cancer screening guidelines. His work bridges molecular genetics with clinical translational studies in high-risk populations.
Recent Publications: Focus on methylation QTLs, early-onset colorectal cancer trends, piRNA roles in tumorigenesis, and trans-ancestry genetic studies to identify novel susceptibility genes. Collaborations extend to multi-omics integration and organoid-based drug screening platforms.
Students and Collaborations: Supervises PhD students Ruby Osborn and Peter Vaughan-Shaw. Collaborates with researchers like Susan Farrington, Farhat Din, and Kevin Myant, with funding from Cancer Research UK and Bowel Cancer UK.
