Makoto Nishimura

Makoto Nishimura, MD, is an attending physician specializing in gastrointestinal cancers and minimally invasive endoscopic techniques at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York. He holds a medical degree from Jichi Medical University, Japan, and completed fellowships in gastroenterology, oncology, and advanced interventional endoscopy at institutions including Jichi Medical University, Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital, and the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. His board certifications include Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JGES) and Internal Medicine (JSIM).

Dr. Nishimura’s clinical expertise focuses on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), with over 950 successful ESD procedures performed. His research explores innovative applications of EUS for treating pancreatobiliary cancers, including a current clinical trial in collaboration with Japanese colleagues to deliver targeted therapies directly to pancreatic tumors.
