Maja Zehfuss is a Professor at the University of Manchester, based in the Department of Politics within the Faculty of Humanities. She holds a doctorate from Aberystwyth University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Warwick University. Previously teaching at Warwick, she joined Manchester in 2006 and served as Associate Dean for Postgraduate Research (2012–2017). She co-edits the Review of International Studies and chairs Manchester University Press' editorial committee. Her research focuses on migration, war ethics, poststructural thought, and memory studies.
Her work includes the award-winning book War and the Politics of Ethics (OUP 2018), which explored ethical dimensions of global conflicts. She co-founded the British International Studies Association’s Poststructural Politics Working Group and has held editorial roles for journals like Critical Studies on Security. Teaching includes courses on critical international politics and war ethics.
Zehfuss has supervised over 10 PhD students, many of whom received prestigious awards. Her grants include a project on the ethics of war alternatives (2014–2015). She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through research on migration and conflict resolution.
