Mai-Linh Hong serves as an Assistant Professor of Literatures and Languages within the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts at the University of California, Merced. Her academic appointment is housed in the Department of Literatures and Languages where she contributes to both undergraduate and graduate instruction in literature and language studies.
Dr. Hong's research focuses on marginalized literary traditions and social justice frameworks. Her scholarly work examines Asian American, Asian diasporic, and Pacific Islander literature through the lens of refugee experiences and critical refugee studies. She investigates Post-1945 American literature with particular attention to contemporary and modern poetry that engages with questions of race, ethnicity, and legal frameworks. Her scholarship bridges literary analysis with law and social justice concerns, while also incorporating creative writing as both subject matter and methodological approach.
Her interdisciplinary research intersects with critical race theory, postcolonial studies, and transnational literary studies, creating important dialogues between literary scholarship and social justice movements. Dr. Hong's work challenges conventional literary canons while amplifying voices from refugee and diasporic communities through rigorous textual analysis and community-engaged scholarship.
