Mai Beilmann is an Associate Professor of Empirical Sociology at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD (2017) and MSc (2007) in Sociology from the University of Tartu. Her research focuses on youth vulnerabilities, social capital, child participation in research, and ethics in social sciences. She has held visiting research positions, including at Goethe University Frankfurt (2023) and University of Konstanz (exchange programs in Psychology/Sociology).
Administratively, she serves on the Estonian Young Academy of Sciences board and chairs the Estonian Sociological Association. Her awards include the 2023 national competition prize for educational research and DAAD grants. She has supervised notable studies, including Heidi Paabort's doctoral work on youth policy and Elen Lina's award-winning BA thesis.
Key research themes include NEET youth, digital skill development, and societal trust trends. She authored/co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with recent work on research ethics and youth vulnerability in European cities.
