Mahdi Garelnabi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences at the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences, University of Massachusetts Lowell. He serves as Director of the ADVANCE Office for Faculty Equity & Resilience and the Core Lab for the Center for Population Health. His research focuses on oxidative stress, inflammation, and lipoprotein metabolism in atherosclerosis and metabolic disorders. He has extensive experience in clinical laboratory method validation and has contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry from Delhi University and postdoctoral training at Emory University. He holds certifications in clinical laboratory leadership and mass spectrometry from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. Awards include the AACC Northeast Section Outstanding Service Award (2017) and the BNS Teaching Excellence Award (2016).
His lab uses animal models, molecular biology, and chromatographic techniques to study cardiovascular risk factors. He has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom have received research awards. The Core Lab provides services for biomarker analysis, environmental factor studies, and method validation.
Dr. Garelnabi is active in professional organizations, including the American Heart Association and AACC. He chairs diversity initiatives and serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Lipids. His work bridges basic science and clinical practice, emphasizing DEI in academia and translational research.
