Mahchid Namazi, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Kean University (Union, NJ) within The College of Health Professions and Human Services. She earned her PhD from McGill University in 2010 and has 27 years of clinical experience across three countries. Her expertise spans developmental language disorders in multilingual children, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and interprofessional education. She established the MENA constituency group in 2019 to empower clinicians in Middle East and North Africa regions.
Dr. Namazi’s research focuses on bilingual language development, cultural-linguistic diversity in clinical practice, and equity in special education. She serves as a language editor for the Journal of Speech Language Hearing Research and is a coordinating committee member of ASHA’s SIG 14. Her work emphasizes fostering diversity through interdisciplinary collaboration, reflected in programs like the Neuro Allies initiative, an autism specialization track for graduate students. She has received the CJS Editors' Choice Award (2014) for impactful research in surgical outcomes.
In teaching, she emphasizes critical thinking and practical application, using clinical case studies to bridge theory and practice. Courses include Speech and Language Development, Bilingual Language Disorders, and Research Design.
